Featuring other artists in your Journal is a great thing to do, because everyone wins! Not only are you supporting other artists by giving them some extra exposure, but you can also earn some exposure for yourself and make new friends too. Additionally, those who view your feature have the opportunity to find some new art and artists.

Therefore, it pays to make your Journal features the best they can be. Making a really good Journal feature can involve a lot of time and work - planning, collecting artwork, arranging the artwork in a Journal, publication, and promotion. Taking these steps instead of merely dragging in thumbs from your Favourites will result in an appealing and rewarding Journal feature. In this tutorial, we're going to produce a feature with images arranged like this:

Receiving criticism is at least as difficult as writing one in the first place. Even reading what other artists have written about your work can be challenging. However, learning of the opinions of others regarding your work is one of the most important tools you can use to improve.
This blog is meant to be a guide on how to take the most out of the feedback you receive to grow as an artist.
Open your mind
No matter how you feel about your own work, try to be neutral when reading the feedback you've received. It's much too easy to subconsciously decide that your work is good just the way it is and end up denying the existence of the faults, or vice versa. This will only make reading the feedback harder for yourself. It's okay to be proud. It's okay to be disappointed. It's not okay to disapprove of other artists' opinions simply because they differ from your own feelings.

Earlier this week I was stalking a photography forum (because it's where all the cool kids are) and I noticed somebody claiming to be a fairly professional photographer angling for information on the best mega-pixels D-SLR camera they could get in order to stabilise their images. Well anybody who knows even a tiny inkling about Photography will very quickly jump on that as most of us know full well that no matter how many megapixels you've got, they aren't worth a thing without a steady hand or more importantly a good sturdy tripod. I never was a firm believer in a tripod and even now, I rarely use it. However I use any number of things to stabilise myself when shooting whether that involves lying in a bed of flowers, resting against a wall or indeed using the nearest person (which I don't recommend - people sway!) Hello everyone!

This is `miontre, writing a blog with step by step instructions on how you can gain more exposure on your art!

Let's get started

Step 1: Join some groups!
Groups are a great way to start gaining more exposure on your art quickly. Visit the +Groups page, and start searching for some groups which will accept your art. The more groups you can find, the better. Search using keywords, and by filtering on the right side of the screen. Groups with a certain focus (e.g. photos of blonde girls riding on white horses rather than just photos) are obviously going to gain you more exposure, because the people watching these groups are more likely to be looking for a particular style of art, not just to expose their own art. Not all groups are related to art, but here are the most common variety of art related groups:

RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE is a weekly feature usually published by the wonderful `JamminJo. She writes it to recognize one artist that stands out within our deviantART community. The deviant she selects must be outstanding and caring about others in the community, and the community itself!
