Giveaways NEED to STOP!Giveaways on deviantART need to stop! They're having a number of detrimental effects on the community at large. Within this article, I aim to discuss this problem, as well as provide alternatives for giveaways. I'll begin by outlining what a giveaway is, both in the real world and on deviantART; explain why giveaways are simply not for deviantART; illustrate my points with real-world examples; and then go into detail on what exactly the aforementioned detrimental effects are. Additionally, I will counteract a number of excuses people use for holding and entering giveaways; as well as offer alternatives to giveaways for both parties.
I know the article is quite long, but this is an issue which myself and a growing number of other community members feel to be important. But I promise, it doesn't actually take too long to read once you get going!
If you agree with my points in this article, or even simply find the debate interesting, I would appreciate
How to Make a Good Profile PageHow to Make a Good Profile Page
Learn some helpful tips to ensure your profile page is appealing to the masses!
written by `miontre for Community Week in %projecteducate.
Quite simply, the way you present yourself is important. People make decisions about other people based on the way they present themselves. You know this is true because you do it yourself. There is no shame in this, because it's natural human behavior: we simply do not have the time to make decisions about each and every person we encounter from scratch, so we have to make some decisions based on how they present themselves. One such judgments made in this way is how worthwhile a person is - through this, we don't learn about a personality, but rather how long we are going to hold interest in this person.
If there's one thing which makes me uninterested in a person's profile, resulting in my immediate departure, it's when there's too much junk and mess on there - a result of careless presentation. :l

projecteducate needs writers! Yes, that's you!%projecteducate needs writers!
Yes, we're looking at you!
Our goal at %projecteducate is to provide the deviantART community, and even the internet at large, with a wealthy collection of valuable educational material. We want to create a group which people know they can come to to find tutorials and other informational articles on a broad range of subjects for free.
Of course, in order to provide these tutorials, we need people to write them! This is where you come in. If you have any sort of skill which you'd like to share, we want to hear from you. This can be anything art-related or deviantART-related. You don't have to be a professional or an expert - as long as you have something to share, your knowledge is valuable!
We're looking for people to get involved by contributing to our Community Weeks in order to share their knowledge. These happen every few months, and are a chance for members of the deviantART community to write
Slenderman caught on camera? ... :/YEsterday my grandmother found her old film camera in her basement!! She had about 11 shots of black + white film left in it too. She knows that I've been keen to take some film photos for a long time, so she called me up and invited me over. We both went out with the camera and I was really excited. She lives near a forest walk and we both thought it would be a good place to take some photos. It was the first time I've ever used a film camera, and an old one at that!!! She instructed me on how to use the camera, get the right exposures etc etc since it's fully manual. She let me take 7 photos and she took the remaning few.. we got home and my grandad developed the photos in their darkroom.
I went this morning to see how the photos had turned out. I first got them and was prety pleased with the results - they weren't amazing quality as i'm new to manual film photography - but that's what i liked about them. I kept looking at the photos, because i loved them so much, and i was so excite
Successful Stamps - How ToSuccessful Stamps
Learn how to command the masses through well thought-out stamps.
written by `miontre for Community Week in %projecteducate
Stamps are small (usually 99 x 56 px) images used on deviantART to express an opinion, share an interest, give personal facts, show support for something, or anything similar. Stamps are usually funny, but many can be controversial or serious too. By using the thumbcode, deviants can paste stamps onto their profiles or into their journals where it serves the same purpose as the creator of the stamp initially made it to.
Stamps can become quite popular quite quickly, and even after their peak continue to see comments and favourites coming in due to their viral nature (people share them which leads other people to see them). Many deviants find their stamps taking the top spots in their gallery's popularity ranking!
However, if they aren't made well, stamps won't be s

Who has Tumblr?I do!
Take a look, and drop your own usernames in the comments!
Please, don't laugh at the somewhat lame username! It took me a day and a half to come up with something, and I didn't want to wait any longer It's my first two initials plus "snap", because I am a photographer and anything like "photography", "photo", "pic" was either too long for my likes or simply didn't flow. I also spent another day and a half making my theme - I love the customisation over at Tumblr; deviantART needs to allow us to both create our own HTML and use awesome CSS3 like transitions.
I was a wee bit annoyed when I found that one of my favourite photos used a texture which wasn't allowed for use outside deviantART So I went and edited a photo I took earlier today, which currently isn't on dA - it's the one with the yellow flowers.
I'm going to use the site as another place to submit my photography, as well as a way to discover

Why many artists suck at marketingWell. I can at least say that the average artist's mentality towards marketing never ceases to amaze me.
Either the guys here are young and naive --that's what I hope it is, since still being pure hearted in a time like this is good-- or they are willingly unaware of what's happening around them.
It all started with a question that came to my mind.
Would people be willing to pay a few point in exchange for a feature on a busy page?
How I got to the idea?
Well, I'm doing contests and giveaways now and then. Things for the community, you'd say. To get some feedback, feature stuff, promoting unknown artists, and that kind of stuff. In order to host those contests and giveaways I often need DeviantArt points. Now, I do get a lot of them by sheer donation. But that always seemed a bit empty to me. So I thought up some kind of idea. To give beginning artists the chance to get featured, and make use of the traffic on my page, in order to get their work viewed by people all over the website. S

LatreuophobiaI wash off sick-sweet orange lipstick in front of a mirror as dusty as gothic romances. It tastes like oblivion, that is to say, like nothing my tongue can detect.
The door opens with a creak no private restroom could emulate. Some chick with blue bobbed hair and smeared eyeliner. I looked like that once. Ten years ago.
Getting the beer out of my hair is harder. Some men just can't take it when I'd rather they not kiss my feet or call me an angel or-
