Back to Basics Photography - Understanding RawdSLR cameras and most bridge cameras have the option to shoot in raw, but what exactly is it and what are the benefits? Let me attempt to explain.
A camera raw file contains all the data that is captured when the shutter button is pressed whereas a JPEG is compressed and a lot of the data is lost. They are often called digital negatives as they serve the same purpose as the negatives in film photography; they are not ready to be used as the final image, but hold all the information and data needed to produce one. This all means that you are left with a higher image quality which also allows you to have more control and manipulate more parameters than a JPEG. All of the metadata is also still in tact, meaning that the original state can always be referred back to if needed.
So, surely you want to see the difference, right? Well you're in luck.

Ezra was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. From an early age Ezra always explored his artistic side. He is now the youngest photojournalist in the country to have ever worked for international wire agencies. Damian ChrobakBorn in Jastrzebie Zdroj (Poland), Damian studied photography at Academy of Photography in Warsaw.
After the first year he decided to look for a different direction and began his search for a photography
he could really call his own. He came to London, where he completed a Black & White Photography course
at the University of the Arts London. Discovering street photography became a turning point in his life.
Damian has been documenting London’s streets life for the last few years with some great results.
He had a few solo and group exhibitions in Poland as well as in England and last year he exhibited
as part of 5th European Month of Phothography in Berlin. In January 2010 he was honoured to receive
a membership of ZPAF (Association of Polish Art Photographers).
Damian is the main person behind the street photography group known as UN-POSED, which has been brought
to life in 2011 and one may get quite surprised uppon reading through the names...

Sebastiao Salgado: humanist by natureI'll be brief on this one.
What to say about the Great Master Sebastiao Salgado ? His photography strucked me so much that I'm speechless. He brought me into photography with the understanding that ONE picture can change the world. His books were long last opened on my table. Each cliche was like a punch in my stomach.
Salgado claims he is a reporter rather than an artist. In one interview he commented: "It's not my intention to give people guilty consciences, just to make them think."
I've chosen only a small part of his beautiful pictures ... Please enjoy and don't hesitate to look at his huge body of work, it'll always be an experience :)

Andy Warhol let it happen.  As the leading conduit of popular and unpopular culture in his time he presaged what we take to be commonplace today. Nothing good has been as edgy since Andy.  In letting it happen he embraced it all. We may need a hundred years to catch up -  - who's to know?

This "Thank You" to Andy hit the sidewalks along Melrose Ave in Los Angeles some months ago.  The blue butterfly, added by another, I believe, is Andy Warhol iconography.  It reminds us all of how much he contributed and of the vibrancy of his legacy, still thoroughly modern after all these years.
